Depending on your business, a majority of customers now expect to be able to pay for their purchases by Credit or Debit Card, either in shops or via phone & Internet.
Indeed, Credit and Debit Card transactions account for over 50% of transactions carried out in the UK every single day. Cards are a convenient and flexible way for customers to pay and they are essential for telephone and on-line payments.
Accepting Cards will open up many more new sales opportunities by providing additional payment options, promoting impulse buying, and reduce bank charges for cash handling.
How does it work?
If you have customers wanting to pay you by card, you will need to open a processing account with an acquiring bank. A processing account allows you to accept all major Debit and Credit cards and in most cases your system can be up and running in less than a month.
The acquiring bank will provide you with a regular monthly statement showing all the payments that were processed and electronically deposited to your business bank account in the previous month. It is not widely known that you are free to use any of the merchant acquirers no matter where your business bank account is held.
