What is a merchant agreement?
This is an agreement between a merchant and the acquiring bank that sets out the terms and conditions of the contract to be entered into for it to process Card transactions.
How do banks charge for accepting Card payments?
There are two main costs for accepting cards - a terminal and a cost per transaction for each card you accept.
Does an Authorisation Code guarantee payment?
Unfortunately not, although it will mean the merchant receives the payment in the normal way initially, a Cardholder does have the right in certain cases to Chargeback the transaction. An authorisation informs that at the time of the transaction, the Card has not been reported lost or stolen and that the genuine Cardholder has sufficient funds available to pay for their purchase. An authorisation cannot, however, verify that the genuine Cardholder is conducting the transaction.
What is a chargeback?
A chargeback arises when a Cardholder disputes a transaction.
What is the difference between a Card present and Card not present transaction?
When the Cardholder is physically present when the goods or services are being paid for this is a Card present transaction.

This is a service developed by MasterCard and Visa to authenticate a Cardholder's transactions made over the Internet.
